Alexey Borodko’s Criminal Case Will Be Heard by The Judge Who Sentenced Another Attorney to 10 Years in Prison

The arrest of Alexey Borodko, Minsk Regional Bar Association attorney, has only recently become known, although he was detained quite some time ago, in January 2023. Human rights activists report that the attorney’s trial is to begin on 15 May.

Judge Tatsiana Falkouskaya will consider this case in Minsk city court. Alexey is charged under Part 3 of Article 130 of the Criminal Code (“incitement of enmity or discord”). The same judge has previously considered the case against an attorney; it was she who sentenced Alexander Danilevich to 10 years imprisonment for providing legal aid.

Alexey’s profile was reportedly removed from the Association's website after his detention. On April 21, 2023, the Qualification Commission on Advocacy terminated the attorney’s license due to the fact that he was excluded from the regional Bar association as a disciplinary sanction for committing an offense “incompatible with a lawyer’s title”.
