The UN Adopted Resolution on Human Rights in Belarus

At its fiftieth session Human Rights Council considered a resolution on the human rights situation in Belarus and voted on it. The resolution was adopted by 23 votes of the participating countries; 6 voted "against" (Bolivia, China, Venezuela, Eritrea, Cuba, Kazakhstan) and another 18 abstained.

The text of the resolution will be published later. The resolution was adopted on the basis of the report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus, Ms Anaïs Marin. In the report, the Special Rapporteur describes the ongoing suppression of political dissent, restrictions on freedom of opinion and expression in the country, as well as an increase in the number of arbitrary arrests and detentions for political reasons.
