Belarusian Republican Bar Association (BRBA) and "Belaya Rus" Become Partners

On December 2, the Belarusian Republican Bar Association (BRBA) and the Republican Public Association "Belaya Rus" signed a cooperation agreement. The document was signed by Aleksey Shvakov, Chairman of the BRBA, and Oleg Romanov, Chairman of "Belaya Rus."

It is worth noting that in March 2023, a political party "Belaya Rus" was established, affiliated with a mentioned public association, whose primary agenda is supporting Alexander Lukashenko's policies. Its ideological platform is based on the principles of the Belarusian state's ideology.

Oleg Romanov, Chairman of the Republican Public Association "Belaya Rus," is known for publicly expressing nostalgia for the Soviet Union, criticizing Western liberal-democratic values — particularly in Belarus — and advocating for deeper integration between Belarus and the Russian Federation. Romanov’s tenure as rector of Polotsk State University is associated with the onset of active persecution of students and faculty who opposed the results of the 2020 presidential elections.

“The subject of the agreement is cooperation in the field of improving the legal literacy of the population. Specifically, the parties have identified the following areas of mutual cooperation: implementing initiatives aimed at enhancing legal literacy and raising awareness about Belarusian legislation; providing legal consultations to the citizens; exchanging experience and knowledge in the field of improving legal literacy, among others”

On the same day, the BRBA also signed a cooperation agreement with the Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers.
