The conference "Development of the Human Rights Lawyers' Community: Theory and Practice" has commenced in Vilnius
On April 19-20, 2024, a conference "Development of the Human Rights Lawyers' Community: Theory and Practice" was taking place in Vilnius. The organizers of the conference are the Center for Constitutionalism and Human Rights of the European Humanities University, the International Partnership of ILIA Graduates and Experts, the Belarusian Association of Human Rights Lawyers, and Lawyers for Lawyers.
The stated objectives of the conference were:
Strengthening the community of lawyers from the Eastern European region based on shared values, competencies, and approaches to improving access to justice and protecting and promoting human rights;
Exploring opportunities to enhance access to justice through the activities of human rights lawyers;
Discussing issues related to the professional training of human rights lawyers and strengthening training outcomes.
The conference was attended by attorneys, including those deprived of the right to practice, from Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, and Russia. The conference speakers include representatives of the bar associations of Poland, Lithuania, France, the Belarusian Association of Human Rights Lawyers, and international organizations such as The European Bars Federation, Lawyers for Lawyers, the International Commission of Jurists, the American Bar Association, and others.
The conference also includes a photo exhibition dedicated to Belarusian attorneys who are political prisoners.
Our project will cover the progress of the conference and publish the key theses and conclusions of the speakers.
